A care home in the north western area of the county is set to undergo major improvements and refurbishment work.
Claremont Residential Home in Corsham is the subject of a planning application that has just been approved by Wiltshire Council.
The work will involve the demolition of an old extension and conservatory and the rebuilding of a new two-storey extension.
The care home will have three new bedrooms with full en-suite facilities, a self-contained flat for visitors, a staff training room, a new accessible bathroom and reading room.
Further refurbishments will occur across the home to improve the general facilities.
The application said: “The Warrington Homes, the owners of Claremont Residential Home, have identified that their lack of up-to-date bedrooms are putting off a number of prospective residents.
“The general population have got used to having an en-suite shower room whenever they stay away, and this is very much the case here too.
“The expectation of a higher standard of bedroom is now becoming the norm rather than the exception.”
In other planning news, a village pub on the south western border of the county could get a large outdoor seating area should its recent application be approved.
The owners of the Bell and Crown in Zeals are seeking permission to demolish outbuildings to the rear of the pub and use the space for outdoor seating.
Nearby, Boyes Transport Yard was denied permission to keep seven shipping containers on its land.
Meanwhile, in Trowbridge, the commercial premises at 14 Newtown could be converted into five new flats.
The application says that the ground floor is currently a vacant shop used for storage.
Another application was received for the construction of 14 holiday let lodges on land south of Headlands Farm in Cricklade.
A pathway through the centre of the lodges from the north of the site to the south would also need to be constructed.
Wiltshire Council will also consider a proposal to transform Temple Farm in Upton Scudamore into a children’s residential home that will be able to accommodate up to four children at any one time.
Further north, a riding arena is proposed at Willows Field, on Malmesbury Road in Leigh.
