Plans have been revealed for a significant addition to a busy Wiltshire superstore.
An application has been submitted for prior approval to install solar panels to the roof of the Morrisons supermarket, on the A350 West Cepen Way in Chippenham.
The plans have been put forward by Gondola Pro, an independent consultant specialising in energy, and could see panels installed on large sections of the main store, warehouse, and store extension.
The applicants added that the new solar generation equipment would not be any higher than the existing plant or equipment on the roof.
At a meeting of the Chippenham Town Council planning committee, councillors lodged their support for a “welcome” scheme that will bring renewable energy to a large building.
Cllr Hayley Wilson said: “I applaud Morrisons for actually taking the time and proposing this in the first place, we need more solar so it’s all good.”
“We should compliment them on being the first supermarket in Chippenham to put panels on the roof”, added Cllr William Douglas.
“And we hope all the other supermarkets will follow and lead towards a better future for Chippenham.”
