A new residential development is set to be built on the south-eastern edge of Devizes.
An outline planning application for 33 new homes and 73 car parking spaces has been approved by Wiltshire Council on land north of Marshall Road.
The majority of the houses will be two-storey buildings arranged in terraces or semi-detached pairs, with a few three-storey properties.
The site is adjacent to the recently constructed Integrated Care Centre and the existing Treatment Centre.
A statement prepared by the applicant, NHS Property Services, stated: “New housing on the site will respond positively to the urban edge setting and form an attractive addition to the south east of Devizes.”
Due to impact of the COVID-19 pandemic during the consultation period, a website was set up to provide details of the scheme and invite comments from the public.
The main points raised were related to the potential for increased traffic, lack of infrastructure in Devizes to support additional development, and the impact on the biodiversity of the area.
The proposals were amended to address concerns raised particularly by the council’s urban design and drainage teams.
The details and reserved matters of the proposal are expected to follow now that the outline application has been approved.
