A new storage facility with 20 shipping containers available for customers to rent could be set up on agricultural land in Wiltshire.
The council has received a planning application that concerns South Farm near Castle Eaton, north of Swindon.
The applicant is seeking permission to set up a self-storage facility on a site that is legally agricultural land, but no longer used as such.
Each container would be 6m in length by 2.4m in width and 2.6m in height.
According to the application to Wiltshire Council, customers would be able to visit the premises and load or unload their containers between the hours of 8am and 6pm during the week and between 8am and 1pm on Saturdays, with no access on Sundays or bank holidays.
The application states: “The proposed containers would make efficient use of this parcel of land providing a use that can be assimilated into the rural location to a greater degree than the lawful adhoc storage of pallets.
“It is therefore respectfully requested that planning permission is granted.”
Meanwhile, Wiltshire Council received and considered many other planning applications this week.
