Members of Wiltshire Council’s planning committee will meet this week to discuss a planning application for a traveller site on land at Clackhill Yard in Bradenstoke.
The debate will occur at the request of Councillor Alison Bucknell, after Lyneham and Bradenstoke Parish Council objected to the application and 39 further objections were received from members of the public.
According to the committee report, one of these comments made defamatory claims and has therefore not been taken into consideration.
The landowner is seeking permission to set up a mobile home, touring caravan and day room to create a “small family site.”
Members of the committee will consider the visual impact on the surrounding area, the environmental and highway impact, the foul drainage arrangements, and the stability of the land.
The case officer for the application has recommended that the plan be approved, as it would “help to meet the acknowledged shortfall in gypsy and traveller pitches across Wiltshire.”
The report concluded: “Whilst the access is not perfect, the development would not generate significant levels of traffic, and accordingly the Highways Officer raises no objection.
“The proposed development would not cause demonstrable harm to the landscape, and concerns over possible land instability are not considered to be overriding.”
The committee will make their decision at the meeting on Wednesday, January 10.
