A Trowbridge schoolgirl has landed a starring role in the latest series of the multi-award-winning Netflix series The Crown which came to its conclusion this month.
Twelve-year-old Lily King, who goes to The Clarendon Academy in Trowbridge, features as Princess Eugenie in the final six episodes in part two.
Over the last year, Lily has had to keep her filming adventures under wraps, but was finally able to reveal her role as The Crown Season 6 part 2 aired on Netflix on Thursday, December 14.
Lily appears in four episodes in a non-speaking role as Princess Eugenie, directly alongside TV legends Imelda Staunton, Dominic West, Jonathan Pryce and Lesley Manville.
These scenes included stepping out onto the iconic Buckingham Palace balcony for the Golden Jubilee and giving the royal wave.
Other scenes included a family photo being taken and a Christmas episode where Lily is playing Jenga with 'the family' and decorating the Christmas tree.
Lily also enjoyed working with Ed McVey and Luther Ford who made their TV debuts starring as Prince William and Harry.
Lily said: “I had four costume fittings at Elstree Studios (home of Strictly Come Dancing) and visited five amazing filming locations, including Burghley House, Wilton House, Winchester Cathedral and Lancaster House opposite Buckingham Palace.
“The cast and crew were really friendly and made me feel so welcome; myself and Honey-Rose Quinn who played Princess Beatrice, even had our own trailer on set.
“Dominic West and Imelda Staunton chatted to us while we were in between takes for the Queen Mother’s funeral and dream scenes and Ed McVey was really funny and always making me laugh. The whole experience has been incredible and something I will never forget.”
Two years ago, alongside fellow Seend Primary School pupil Florence Crossman, Lily presented a posy to the Duchess of Cornwall, now Queen Camilla, at a service to commemorate the rededication of Seend Memorial.
As a keen dancer and actor Lily has enjoyed performing in a variety of stage shows and takes regular lessons with 4 Stars Dance in Melksham and also studies with drama teacher Lou Cox.
In 2022 Lily played the part of Brigitta in the Trowbridge Musical Theatre production of The Sound of Music, and it was during the final dress rehearsal that her family received the call from her agency saying she had been offered the exciting role of Princess Eugenie in The Crown.
Lily’s mother Hannah said: “Our entire family are incredibly proud of Lily, she works so hard inside and outside of school and it’s not easy to get professional acting roles if you live outside of London.
“The glowing feedback we had from The Crown production team and costume department was just the icing on the cake.”
Lily's page on the Mandy network for performing artists, describes her as "an accomplished performer and attends local dance and theatre schools."
It adds: "Lily is a committed and mature young performer with a passion for acting, dance and singing. She has had an exciting first year in the professional industry, being part of some huge TV projects and received glowing feedback from production companies.
"Lily is an intelligent and articulate child who has a fantastic memory and excellent natural timing.
"She is quick to remember lines and dance routines (and usually knows everyone else's too). Lily is an exceptional reader and writer; her teachers regularly comment on her excellent writing skills, imagination and vocabulary, where she excels in the classroom."
Watch this space because there’s lots more to come from Lily in 2024, including appearances in Season 2 of a hilarious Disney Plus show early next year and a huge Netflix Sci-Fi production in March.
