Wiltshire Council has shared advice on having a Christmas that is better for the environment.
This includes information on waste disposal, including electrical items and wrapping paper.
Electrical items small enough to fit inside a shoe box can be left by residents’ blue-lidded bins or recycling sack, in a carrier bag.
Batteries can also be placed in the same location, in a clear sealed bag, on collection day.
All other electrical items should be recycled at household recycling centres.
Gift bags and wrapping paper made of card or paper can also be recycled.
Residents who have signed up to garden waste collections can leave their real Christmas tree next to their green bin on the first scheduled collection in January.
Alternatively, some charities also collect Christmas trees for a small donation.
Councillor Nick Holder, cabinet member for environment, said: “There’s plenty of ways we can all make small changes to have an eco-friendly Christmas this year.
“You could consider switching to LED light bulbs, buying local food, reducing waste with our Christmas top tips, or driving more economically when visiting family and friends over the festive period.
“You could also consider making your new year’s resolution to reduce your carbon footprint and carry on these good habits in 2024.”
