A new dog exercise field will be created on land near Hilperton after plans were approved by Wiltshire Council.
The field is located on Whaddon Lane, with the proposal stating private individuals would be allowed to book one-hour sessions through an online portal between the hours of 7am to 7pm.
Hilperton Parish Council objected to the application on the grounds that the change of use would mean a loss of agricultural land and there would be an increase in the amount of traffic using Whaddon Lane, with motorists potentially being encouraged to use the surfaced Trowbridge to Melksham cycle track.
But when the proposal was presented to the Western Area Planning Committee on Wednesday, November 22, councillors heard a strong case against the objection.
It was argued that dog exercise fields provide a solution to the growing need and market for controlled locations where dogs can play and exercise safely in a stress-free countryside environment.
The committee was reminded that the applicant would allow no more than three people and one car per booking, with a 15-minute crossover period to ensure that the parking is clear for the next client.
Councillors unanimously voted in favour of granting approval for the application.
