Former pub Sir Audley Arms, on Audley Road in Chippenham, could become the site for multiple new homes.
Wiltshire Council has received a planning application prepared on behalf of Cordage 20 Limited that proposes the old building become two four-bedroom homes and one two-bedroom home.
There would also be an additional new four-bedroom home constructed beside it.
The pub was on the market for around £475,000 after owners Admiral Taverns decided to sell but did not generate the interest they had hoped.
The application states: "The Sir Audley Arms is not a viable business and has been extensively marketed by Everard Cole for a period of approximately nine months at the time of this application, to a wide audience with no substantial interest registered by public house operators or community groups."
The plot includes the vacant Sir Audley Arms in the centre of the site, surrounding hardstanding, beer garden, outbuilding and car park.
The new homes would have parking and rear gardens, and would reflect "the more traditional characteristics of the locality" providing "sympathetic integration into the local environment."
The application adds: "The proposals include partial demolition of the existing building's extension at the rear and demolition of the associated outbuilding to the side."
The suggested use of the land is described as efficient and able to provide appropriate housing.
