Dyson Technology Ltd has sent an application to Wiltshire Council proposing high-security fencing and gates on Hullavington Airfield.
It states that the proposed works are required to address ongoing security issues at the site.
The fencing and gates would be 2.4m high and constructed of metal weld mesh.
The application states they would be “entirely consistent with both the character of an airfield location in general and other fencing that can be found across the wider airfield.”
It adds: “The proposed security fencing will not detract from either the historic illustrative value of the airbase buildings or the coherence of the buildings which are appreciated through the open views.”
The fencing is described by manufacturers as providing high-level perimeter protection with high-impact damage resistance at every section.
Hullavington Airfield is located north of Chippenham and was previously a Royal Air Force Base.
After it was decommissioned by the RAF in the late 1990s, Dyson purchased the land and opened their second UK technology campus there in 2018.
According to the company, Hullavington Campus now contains some of the most advanced research, design and development labs in the world.
