Bake Off's Prue Leith attacked for MP son's conservative beliefs

Prue Leith has admitted that she often receives criticism due to her son Danny Kruger’s beliefs.

Kruger is a Conservative politician who has been the MP for Devizes in Wiltshire since 2019 after being elected with a majority of 23,993.

In an interview with The Times, Leith, who is one of the judges on hit TV series Great British Bake Off, said she gets attacked for his beliefs “all the time”, especially on “evil Twitter."

“He’s a Tory for goodness’ sake. Half the country are Tories — actually, not any more I don’t imagine,” she said.

Leith spent time with her son during the filming of a Channel 4 documentary that aired earlier this year which explores the topic of doctor-assisted suicide.

“We both thought there should be a programme about death which is not vitriolic, because in this argument, as with many issues, you have both sides shouting at each other and nobody’s listening,” she said.

Kruger is an evangelical Christian and was political secretary to Boris Johnson in 2019.

At the National Conservatism conference this year, Kruger claimed that a “normative family held together by marriage” was the “only basis for a safe and successful society”.
