Two new electric cars were badly damaged when a vehicle transporter hit the underside of the Yarnbrook viaduct rail bridge in Trowbridge.
The incident on Monday (October 9) led to road and rail chaos as the two cars crashed off the transporter and blocked the A363 Westbury Road in both directions shortly after 3.30pm.
The A363 was closed between the Budgens roundabout and the Yarnbrook crossroads and rail services cancelled for several hours as the emergency services dealt with the incident.
Trowbridge Police wrote on Facebook: “Westbury Road is currently closed between the Budgens roundabout and Yarnbrook roundabout following a collision involving a lorry and car shortly after 3.30pm.
“The road is likely to remain closed for several hours so we would urge drivers to seek an alternative route if possible.”

Great Western Railway also warned passengers that the rail lines were blocked, saying: “All train lines in Trowbridge have been blocked as a result of the crash.
“A vehicle in the crash collided with the railway bridge which intersects Westbury Road.”
The cars were loaded on the back of a British Car Auctions transporter heading towards the Yarnbrook crossroads on the edge of Trowbridge.
They crashed off the transporter after it attempted to go under the bridge and one of them landed upside down on the road.
The damaged cars were later recovered and the scene cleared by 6.35pm.
Police said that there were no injuries from the crash but South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust confirmed one person had been taken to Royal United Hospital Bath.
A spokesperson for SWASFT said: “We were called at 3.40pm on Monday, October 9 to an incident on Westbury Road, Trowbridge.
“We sent a double-crewed land ambulance and conveyed one patient by land ambulance to Royal United Hospital Bath.”
GWR said train services were running again with some disruptions shortly before 7pm.
