A Wiltshire business has been fined hundreds of pounds for illegally fly-tipping commercial waste on a busy town centre street.

The Bradford on Avon based business, which cannot be named as no court conviction was obtained, was slapped with a £700 fine for depositing waste outside The Shambles.

The commercial rubbish had been left for collection by the council, as if it was household waste, which led to a £400 charge for fly-tipping and a further £300 fine for failing to produce waste transfer notes and not having a commercial waste contract.

This fixed penalty notice comes as part of a council crackdown on fly-tippers, which saw another business in the town also fined £300 for failing to produce waste transfer notes.

They must ensure it does not harm the environment and that is correctly presented for collection by a licenced commercial waste collector on their allocated collection day.

“They must also obtain waste transfer notes that must be held for two years by law… to prove they are complying with the law on commercial waste management.

“Not only is fly-tipping unsightly, but it is a criminal offence that we take very seriously here in Wiltshire.”
