THAMES Water has been ordered to pay £19,000 after being found guilty of failing to minimise the inconvenience of roadworks.
The utility company, based in Reading, was found guilty at Croydon Magistrates Court on August 17 of failing to comply with a duty under section 60 of the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991.
In full, the charge reads that ‘an undertaker failed to use his best endeavours to co-operate with the street authority to minimise the inconvenience to persons using the street’.
It is unknown where or when the roadworks took place but the company was fined £10,000.
The utility company was also ordered to pay a £2,000 victim surcharge and £7,000 in court costs.
