A Wiltshire road has been closed until later this week for emergency repairs to a drain cover that is “close to collapsing”.

Westbury Road, in North Bradley on the edge of Trowbridge, was due to close on Tuesday, July 18, while repairs to a drain cover were carried out.

But Wiltshire Council highway staff have been forced into more drastic action after it was discovered the drain cover is nearing a collapse.

The road, which runs between Yarnbrook and the junction with Southwick Road, has now been closed for urgent repairs.

It will remain shut until Friday, July 21, when it is due to reopen to road users.

In a tweet, the council warned drivers of the closure and apologised for any inconvenience caused by the loss of access.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Council said: “We had planned to close Westbury Road in North Bradley for Tuesday only to replace a drain cover.

“Unfortunately, the cover is close to collapsing, so we have now closed the road to carry out urgent repair works. It will reopen on Friday. Apologies for any inconvenience caused.”
