A well-known plant nursery from west Wiltshire is once again exhibiting at this year’s RHS Chelsea Flower Show on this week.

The Botannic Nursery from Atworth, near Melksham, will be hoping to match the highly coveted RHS Gold Medal it won last year.

The nursery won Gold for for its early flowering and foliage species from the national collection of Foxgloves with intersectional peonies.

Winning its first RHS Chelsa Gold Medal in 1999, the nursery holds the Plant Heritage National Collection of Digitalis (Foxgloves).

At its nursery in Atworth, owners Terry and Mary Baker grow a large range of lime-tolerant plants and hardy woody shrubs, such as Foxgloves, Salvias, as well as perennials.

Mary said: “We exhibit at many major flower shows and received our first Royal Horticultural Society Gold Medal in June 1999 for an exhibit of Foxgloves at the summer show.

“In between that and our last one at Chelsea Flower Show in 2022 we have gained over 20 medals.

“Our proudest moment came when we received the Queen’s Jubilee Gold Medal in 2012. Winning medals is not done by just one person and we are grateful to all the team who help us.”

The RHS Chelsea Flower Show is on from Tuesday to Saturday, May 23-27 in the grounds of the Royal Hospital at Chelsea in London.

The RHS awards presented at the annual show are regarded as highly prestigious accolades by the winners.
