A Wiltshire High Street will close to motorists for urgent resurfacing works to “protect public safety.”
Malmesbury High Street will shut from the junction with Oxford Street to the junction with Ingram Street while urgent work is carried out to resurface the carriageway.
Wiltshire Council claim the works are necessary “in the interests of public safety.”
The closure will begin on May 15 and will see the route closed off to motorists from 7pm until 11.59pm for an estimated five days.
In a notice warning residents of the works, a council spokesperson said: “Wiltshire Council hereby give notice that on May 15, 2023, the following length of road shall be closed to all traffic in the interests of public safety to enable Wiltshire Council to carry out urgent carriageway resurfacing and associated works.”
The council also announced that the existing one-way order for St Dennis Road and Cross Hayes Lane will be suspended to allow traffic to flow during the closure.
Access will be maintained for residents and businesses although delays are likely.
Motorists should follow the alternative route from Gloucester Street to the unaffected length of the High Street via Abbey Row, The Triangle, Gloucester Road, Tetbury Hill, Filands, the A429 and the B4014, and vice versa.
