The people of Trowbridge are being urged to join in the celebrations for the coronation of King Charles III over the May Bank Holiday weekend.
They are being invited to watch the King and Queen Camilla being crowned at Westminster Abbey in London on Saturday, May 6.
The event will be screened live on a big screen from 10am to 3pm in the comfort of The Civic, where the bar will be open to serve refreshments.
A Trowbridge Town Council spokesperson said: “There will be complimentary activities for the whole family to join in the celebrations.”
In the town centre, Cllr Mel Jacob, of the Trowbridge Big Community Grow project and the organiser of the Trowbridge Apple Festival, said she is “pleased” to be supporting the development of the town and the Coronation celebrations.
A BBC film crew was out in the town centre on Thursday filming the community project to create ‘Highgrove on the Highstreet’.
Planters will be installed in the town centre with floral displays designed by the winners of the Highgrove on the High Street competition.
Seven 1.5-metre square planters will be filled with floral displays designed to last from May to September 2023 and reflect King Charles’ love of gardening and the environment.
Cllr Jacob said: “We were filmed by BBC this morning in the area where the display will be created.
“Look out for planting in next few weeks ready for the Coronation on May 6. We hope this will create a lovely area to sit on Fore Street through the summer.
“Huge thanks to Trowbridge Town Council, Katy Brown and The Nursery for support with this project.”
Representatives of the winning groups will be asked to create their displays on Saturday, April 29 and/or Sunday, April 30.
Also, as part of Trowbridge's celebrations local children have been invited to take part in a Parade of Kings and Queens with a Royal fancy dress theme.
They will parade through the town centre to Trowbridge Park on Friday, May 5. The parade will start on Fore Street and finish in the park with a picnic lunch.
