Sportswear giant Sports Direct will open a new store in Wiltshire, replacing a recently closed fashion retailer.
Sports Direct signage has appeared on the empty retail unit at the Gateway Shopping Centre on Bythesea Road, Trowbridge, which was recently vacated by New Look.
The fashion retail chain left the town in January when it closed its store.
This led to speculation about who would take over the occupancy of their space in the shopping centre, with Sports Direct not confirming any potential move.
But now the sportswear company has revealed its new site is “opening soon”.
Sports Direct currently has a store in The Shires shopping centre but will soon relocate, with shop staff said to be aware of the move.
The move will see a store open next door to Evans Cycles, a sister company within the Frasers Group plc.
Both former staff and customers had expressed their disappointment that New Look was leaving the town, although the fashion chain added they hope to return soon.
A spokesperson said: “Regrettably, our New Look store in Trowbridge is closing following the landlord’s request to take the property back and exit the lease early.
“We have loved being part of the local community and would like to thank all of our customers in the local area.”
