TROWBRIDGE: A town centre restaurant is to become a shop and offices are to become flats on Fore Street if new plans get the go ahead.
The closed Indian restaurant at 10 Fore Street and the vacant offices at 12 Fore Street to three flats.
There will be changes to the building for this development, including removing partitions and wall coverings and installing a new lighting system.
The new flats will be two two-bedroom flats and one one-bedroom flat.
It is proposed to convert the large vacant upper floor offices to residential accommodation.
The plans say: “We do not feel that the building [built in the mid-20th century] will be negatively affected by the proposed works.
"We further do not feel that the Conservation Area setting will be negatively impacted. The removal of the extract ventilation system, rationalization of externally mounted serviced, replacement of the deteriorated rear windows, and the replacement of the aluminium shop front with a timber one will all be improvements to the property.”
MALMESBURY: A vintage fashion shop in Malmesbury is set for a big improvement if new plans go ahead.
The Old Kit Box on Gloucester Street has applied for two new spiral stairs, a balcony and new windows.
The plans say: “The replacement of the existing ugly wooden stairs and the provision of a new balcony and spiral stairs will have no damaging impact on the character of this building.
“It will improve the internal circulation in this rabbit warren of a building.”
However, the applicant adds: “Regrettably it is hard to see that any disabled access could be improved in this building.”
MELKSHAM: A new DT workshop is planned for Stonar School, near Melksham.
The school at Coombe Lane, Atworth which dates back to 1895 has proposed to extend its current Design and Technology Building.
Stonar is a day and boarding school for both boys and girls.
The plans say: “As both the DT workshop and the general teaching spaces across the school site are operating inefficiently, there is a demand to improve the existing school facilities.
“It is intended that this will enhance the school’s facilities through the provision of additional internal teaching floorspace and improve the general school environment.”
“Following a review of space requirements, Stonar School has identified an immediate need for additional teaching space for the new school year.
“The proposed works will provide a modest amount of new floorspace.
“The new single storey DT workshop will have a gross internal area of approximately 74m2.”
The plans add there will not be any impact on the listed building nearby.
