Three teenagers have been charged while a further five have been arrested in the wake of a disorder involving armed youths in Devizes.

Wiltshire Police confirmed that they responded to reports of youths brandishing weapons on Naughton Avenue and then at the Esso Garage on London Road, at around 5pm on Sunday, February 5.

Now three teenagers, who cannot be named for legal reasons, have been charged in connection with a disorder in the town that evening.

Two boys, 16 and 17, have both been charged with using threatening and abusive words and behaviour. They have since been released on bail.

A third boy, 16, was charged with possession of cannabis and appeared in court on the morning of Thursday, February 9.

He received an absolute discharge as a result of the time he had already spent in custody, and the fact he had no prior convictions.

Five others were arrested in connection with the disorder and released on bail pending further enquiries.

On Monday, February 6, police confirmed they had arrested two 15-year-olds. One on suspicion of violent disorder and affray and another on suspicion of affray.

At the time, Insp Ben Huggins appealed to parents to “educate your children on the potential impact of carrying weapons.

“It can destroy lives, including your own and your family’s.”
