Devizes mayor Cllr Peter Corbett was one of the first to get his eyesight tested at the new Boots Opticians in The Brittox.
He cut a ribbon at the official opening of the new branch following its relocation from the Market Place.
He was accompanied by his wife, mayoress Christine, and Boots franchise director Rob Hopwood.
Customers were greeted with glasses of Prosecco and mince pies to celebrate the opening.
Boots Opticians Devizes has relocated to larger premises at 4-4A The Brittox to double its capacity for eyesight testing.
While Mr Hopwood briefed Cllr Corbett on the range of spectacles on offer, optometrist Tess Horton tested his eyesight with the Phoropter.
The ophthalmic testing device is commonly used by eye care professionals during an eye examination.
Mr Hopwood said: “Tess is one of our success stories, having started with us as a Saturday student nine years ago.
“She has been the first to be sponsored through Cardiff University to train and qualify as an optometrist.”
Mr Hopwood also runs a second Boots Opticians franchise store in Market Place, Warminster, and has plans to open other stores over the next few years.
