WILTSHIRE'S Jordan Smith moved up one place in the DP World Tour rankings following a tied-sixth-place finish at the Andalucia Masters last week.
Smith chained together three rounds of 69 to put himself in contention on six under before a disappointing one-over-par score of 72 on Sunday saw the Chippenham man fall back to sixth.
Realistically, the competition on Sunday was for second place as Spain's Adrian Ortaegui held a six-shot lead over Sweden's Joakim Lagergren.
Ortaegui rounded off his outstanding week with a score of three-under to lift the trophy on 19-under for the tournament.
Meanwhile, Smith's Sunday was much tougher to watch with four birdies, three bogeys, and a double-bogey.
The 29-year-old opened up with a birdie before recording consecutive bogeys on holes four and five. Smith's bogey on the par-five fourth came as a result of finding the water on his approach shot to the green - not the only time he would do that on the day.
Having reached the turn one over, Smith brought his score back to level par with another birdie on the 10th.
Four consecutive pars followed before a wild ending for the Bowood GC member. Smith ended his round by going bogey, birdie, double-bogey, birdie and finishing on one-over for the day.
Smith will take a week off before returning at the Portugal Masters at the end of October.
