CHIPPENHAM Town striker and long-time fan Luke Gullick is hoping he can help end a decade of play-off disappointment when The Bluebirds take on Halesowen Town tomorrow night.
Chippenham lad Gullick has supported his hometown club since the age of 12 and has witnessed The Bluebirds fall at three sets of play-offs as a fan.
He was also in the crowd when Chippenham lost in the FA Vase final at Wembley to Deal Town in 2000.
But while Gullick's home club have had a difficult time getting promoted, he himself has a good memories of the play-offs.
Gullick helped Swindon Supermarine into the Southern League Premier Division last year with the first goal in a 2-0 win against Taunton Town.
Gullick said: "I got the first goal and it was probably one of the best goals I've ever scored in my life, a volley from 30 yards. If I could do that again it would be brilliant.
"I never thought I'd play for Chippenham when I was younger and they have been so unlucky in the play-offs. I want to be part of the club's history and if I can can send them up then that's great."
The former Chippenham under-15s striker proved Adie Mings' trump card in the crucial tie against Cheshunt last Saturday.
Chippenham needed to win to be sure of a play-off place, and were 2-1 ahead when Gullick entered the fray to explosive effect on 70 minutes.
He cracked in a spectacular volley with his first touch to make it 3-1 and give his side breathing space.
Gullick said: "I want to start every game and when I came on I just wanted to score.
"I had a hand in the fourth goal as well which was pleasing. I felt I contributed quite a bit.
"I've got to take my chances because there's so many people wanting a place."
As his side prepare for the play-offs once more, The Bluebirds forward insists his side are as good as anyone in the Southern League.
Gullick said: "I don't think any other side has been better than us, it's just up to us if we want to perform really.
"If eight or nine of us are playing our best game then I'm sure it will pay off."
