A serious accident involving a lorry and car has closed a major Wiltshire route near Devizes for over 14 hours.

The accident took place on the A361 at Bishop Cannings at around 6.30pm yesterday and has affected traffic between Marlborough and Devizes.

It is not yet known if anyone was injured in the accident.

The A361 has been closed both ways since around 7pm yesterday from the Beckhampton roundabout to the junction with Blacklands towards Devizes. 

Police say it will remain shut for "some time" this morning. Traffic is currently coping well.

Accident investigation work is ongoing and the lorry's load is taking a "considerable" time to move.

Officers have asked drivers to seek alternative routes due to the closure.
