HUNDREDS of visitors braved overcast skies, wind and rain to browse the stalls at the Taste of Corsham street fair on last Saturday (June 18).
The regular event returned to Corsham High Street to provide a celebration of local and regional food and drink.
The event was organised by Corsham Town Council, whose spokesperson Sharon Thomas said afterwards: “Although the rain showers meant we didn’t get the crowds we’ve seen in the past, we were still delighted with the turn-out, and probably saw around 1,500 people in town during the event.
"At least six of our stallholders sold out completely so they were delighted. The performances on the Taste Stage, organised for us by The Pound as part of their Green Sky Festival, were sometimes more a case of ‘Singing in the Rain’ but still drew a crowd and everyone had a great time.
"Even the deckchairs on our Picnic Lawn at the back of Digital Mansion Corsham got used by people enjoying the busking performances, particularly when it brightened up later in the day.
"Nothing could dampen anyone’s spirits and the town council is delighted that everyone – stallholders and visitors – enjoyed themselves and that Taste brought people into the town centre to see what wonderful local businesses we have here.
"It was lovely to have Taste of Corsham back after the pandemic, particularly as it’s the first of a busy year of events for the town council with the Summer Fete next up on 9 July.”
Kimberley Jones, of Honey's Cider at Midford, said: "Considering the weather, it was a great success.
"The weather was not entirely good, particularly in the morning, when we had a rain shower that lasted for a while at around 11am.
"But it didn't deter people from coming out. Everyone was on good form. We would definitely come again."
This year’s treats include a picnic lawn at the Digital Mansion, with live music there and on the Taste Stage in the Martingate Centre.
There were also children’s sports and activities, and the return of the Taste Trail with a prize of a Woody’s - The Deli at Corsham hamper for the winner.
The event also linked up with The Pound Art Centre’s Green Sky Festival to bring visitors a craft workshop, singers and storytelling family fun from Gav Cross.
