A 29-year-old woman has been found guilty of driving through Marlborough while under the influence of cocaine.

The incident took place on October 24 last year, when Catherine Rose Cady, of Clench Common drove a Dacia Sandero on the A4 in the town while on drugs.

Catherine faced court on May 27 this year and was issued with a driving ban, as well as a fine of £80, a victim surcharge of £34, and ordered to pay costs of £45 to the Crown Prosecution Service.

The 29-year-old pleaded guilty, which the court said was taken into account when imposing her sentence.

According to South East Wiltshire’s Magistrates Court: "The proportion of a controlled drug, namely Benzoylecgonine, in her blood, exceeded the specified limit, contrary to section 5A(1)(a) and (2) of the Road Traffic Act 1988 and Schedule 2 to the Roat Traffic Offenders Act 1988."

Benzoylecgonine is an ingredient of cocaine, and is what is tested for in cocaine drug screens.

If a driver exceeds the legal limit for Benzoylecgonine of 50 micrograms per litre of blood, anyone convicted receives a 12-month driving disqualification.
