A GANG of young people who ambushed a bus on the Studley Green estate in Trowbridge have been given written warnings about their behaviour.
Residents of the estate were trapped on the vehicle when a group of young people brought it to a halt by running out into the middle of the road and then pelted it with missiles including rocks and bottles.
The 236 First Group bus serving Studley Green was travelling along Lambrok Road toward Sandford Park at the time of the attack on January 18.
Since the attack, which was not the first of its kind in the area, officers with the John of Gaunt Neighbourhood Policing Team made extensive investigations and with the help of members of the community managed to identify four of the youths responsible, who were aged between 14 and 18.
PCSO Dave Brown, of Trowbridge police, said: "The youths involved have been advised about the dangers of their behaviour and the risks to them and to the community.
"They have been issued with written warnings from the police, the local housing society and the Anti-Social Behaviour Panel.
"Any further incidents will not be tolerated and will be dealt with immediately and severely."
There were fears the bus company would have to put an end to the route because of the attacks and local residents were worried they would lose a valuable public transport service.
The police have reassured residents that the service is not at risk.
Mr Brown said: "The police are working with the bus company and reassuring the drivers and the passengers. At the moment the bus company has no plans to discontinue the route."
