Swindon has just been named as one of the worst places for a night out.

Get Licensed recently listed the best (and worst) places in the UK for a night out, and the town ended up falling into 35th place on the ranking.

But what about the rest of Wiltshire? Surely it can’t be that bad out there.

We asked our Wiltshire readers about what they really made of the nightlife scene in our serene county.

Chris Randall noted that it is not what it used to be, commenting on our Facebook discussion: “Brunel rooms was great, back in the day.”

Wayne Edwards also got a little nostalgic.

He said: “It was all over once 'Joe's' in Corsham closed...”

Kenneth Crossley disagreed with the sentiment that Swindon was lacking something on the nightlife front.

He recalled: “I’ve had some great times in Swindon, and trying to find my car in the wrong multi-storey car park, happy days.”

Without revealing his favourite spots for a night out, Lark Keith simply added that it was; “Better than Swindon’s.”

Chippenham, on the other hand, seems to present mixed reviews. For Melanie Boyle, she believes that the key to a good night out is all about getting to know the area.

She said: “For Chippenham, it's about people not knowing how good it is and what is on offer. We are trying to get the OneChippenham website as the place to add events and check out what's on.”

For Wiltshire as a whole, some were less optimistic.

Martyn Ford remarked that it was: “non-existent,”

And some people even reckoned that skipping a night on the town altogether is the way to go.

Stephen J Squires stated: “I stay in, it’s cheaper.”

According to Google reviews, The Boston Shaker is the place to go for a dance in Wiltshire. Located in Warminster, the club boasts a five-star rating.

Local guide Simon Evans described it as a: “great cocktail bar with good prices and choice, and a friendly atmosphere.”

He added: “I would highly recommend it.”

In Salisbury, there is a range of opinions on the town’s nightlife. On Yelp, a long-standing nightclub; ‘The Chapel’ has an average rating of just 2.5 stars.

One user who rated it, just one star noted: “This is possibly the worst nightclub I've ever been dragged to. Salisbury is not known for its nightlife and this place really exemplifies this perfectly.”
