CHRISTMAS is over and no doubt there are plenty of leftovers to recycle including any real trees.

People who pay for their garden waste to be collected by Wiltshire Council can put their real trees alongside their bins to be collected in January.

Cabinet member for waste, Dr Mark McClelland said: “People who subscribe to the council’s chargeable garden waste service can put their real Christmas tree alongside their garden waste bin on their first garden waste collection day in January, and we will make sure it is composted and diverted from landfill.

“The Christmas trees collected are first chipped, and then composted along with the other garden waste collected at the kerbside and from our household recycling centres.”

Alternatively, people can support local charities by paying a small donation to have their trees collected through the Just Helping Scheme.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our residents for recycling in 2021, and to thank all of the collection crews as they have continued to provide these essential services to Wiltshire residents throughout the pandemic and over the festive period,” Cllr McClelland added.
