The Pound Arts Centre has announced the launch of a new art exhibition reflecting on the events of 2020.

Salisbury-based artist and curator Prudence Maltby presents over forty mixed media artworks in response to the collective trauma experienced during the Covid19 pandemic.

Maltby’s powerful work also addresses issues such as the Black Lives Matter protests and the vulnerability of the NHS.

Prudence Maltby: Staring From A Thousand Yards will be shown at the Pound Arts Centre from August 20 – September 28.

In discussing her work, Maltby said: "I believe Covid19 has exposed us all to an unparalleled shared trauma as we’ve adapted to a different world with a faceless foe.

"Collectively and individually we react to the strain and tension surrounding the pandemic, shifting between feelings of agitation and immobilization; waves of panic seeing new headlines; and then a sense of resignation and acceptance as the new disease weaves through populations across the world."

Katie Ackrill, Pound Arts’ Visual Arts Coordinator added:" "Prudence Maltby presents a unique response to a world shaken to its core, through striking imagery that is at once moving, unsettling, playful and humorous. Prudence’s layered compositions of juxtaposed cut-outs and expressive mark making give the work a surreal edge, which feels appropriate for the unprecedented times we’re living through. "

The exhibition, which has been delayed twice due to lockdown restrictions, is finally able to open at Pound Arts on Friday August 20. Pound Arts will also hold an opening event for the exhibition on Thursday 19th August, 6.30 – 8pm. Those wishing to attend are asked to RSVP to the Box Office at Pound Arts – box.office@poundarts.org.uk.
