PRE-CONSULTATION on plans for 26 self-build houses in Malmesbury is currently running.

The survey will give nearby residents an early say on plans for land to the east of the A429 before they are submitted to Wiltshire Council.

At this stage the plans are still illustrative and the 26 home development will contain a mix of two, three, four and five-bedroom properties.

A statement on the consultation site says: “Each serviced self build plot will be available for sale individually to buyers who wish to design and build their own home.

“Each plot will have services such as electricity, water and sewerage provided to the boundary ready for connection.

“In addition to providing services to each plot, we will provide the site infrastructure including roads, public open space and site landscaping.”

According to developers – who are a small husband and wife team – the intention is that there will be a period of exclusivity for local residents to purchase the plots before they go on the open market.

They add: “Section 106 payments will be made on this scheme to provide additional school places and improvements to other local services.”

Section 106 payments are made by developers to the local authority offset the impact of development on the infrastructure of an area.

Road access is proposed to be via a new junction on the A429, with a new turning lane.

Footway access will be via a new pedestrian crossing to connect the development to the existing local footways, allowing easy and safe access to the town centre and other facilities.

“Our aim is to bring quality, serviced self build plots to Malmesbury, enabling individuals to fulfil their dreams of designing and building their own home,” the page continues.
