A teenager who was caught dealing Class A drugs in Trowbridge has been jailed for five years and eight months.
Ibrahim Chafik, 18, formerly of Trowbridge and now at HMP Bullingdon in Oxfordshire, appeared at Winchester Crown Court yesterday (05/07) for sentencing.
He had previously pleaded guilty to being concerned in the supply of crack cocaine, heroin and cannabis, possession with intent to supply crack cocaine, possession of heroin and possession of cannabis.
Whilst Chafik was under investigation for an incident which happened in November 2018, officers further stopped him in Fore Street, Trowbridge, on February 5, 2021 and seized a quantity of cash, a mobile phone and £340 worth of crack cocaine.
They also seized a small amount of cannabis which Chafik dropped on the floor while being detained.
Due to his continued offending, Chafik was remanded before being sentenced yesterday.
Det Con Luke Barnett, from Wiltshire Police’s Operation Fortitude, said: “Our evidence shows that Chafik has been drug dealing for many years now.
"On this occasion he was purchasing Class A drugs from the Bath area and then travelling back to Trowbridge, preparing the drugs into smaller amounts to deal on the streets here in Wiltshire.
"The phone we seized showed contact with known drug users in the town.
“We know that people living in Trowbridge will be pleased to see this offender behind bars and we hope this case shows our commitment to targeting drug dealers.
“The sale and distribution of Class A drugs brings great harm to our communities, not only the impact on vulnerable drug users but the associated crime and violence.”
Chafik had previously appeared for trial at Swindon Crown Court on March 12, and at Swindon Magistrates Court on March 22 charged with failing to comply with the requirements of post-custodial supervision.
It was alleged that he failed to attend appointments on December 11, 18 and 29 2020, December 2020 or provide a reasonable excuse, having been originally sentenced at Salisbury Magistrates Court on June 29 2020.
If you have suspicions about drug dealing in your area then you can report it to police via the Wiltshire Police website or by calling 101, or by calling 999 if a crime is in progress.
