More than 25 campaigners staged a protest outside County Hall in Trowbridge this morning against the £200 million energy from waste incinerator at Westbury.
Members of the 1,838-strong Westbury Gasification Action Group/No Westbury Incinerator say the proposed new facility will create air pollution and increase HGV traffic in the area.
Dan Gmaj, of WGAG, said: “This is not a them and us situation. The fact is that this is right on our doorstep and it is not being portrayed as such. It is a travesty.”
Mel Moden, of Chippenham Extinction Rebellion, said:”The council need to be as afraid of the public as it is of developers taking legal action. We just can’t go on letting them roll over us.”
Northacre Renewable has applied to change the technology for the proposed incinerator from advanced thermal treatment to moving grate combustion which is cheaper.
A decision on the plans is expected today, as they go before the strategic planning committee at Town Hall.
