A SMALL private family funeral, following Covid restrictions, was held on Friday (Feb 5) following the death of Mike Bristow, for many years the sports editor of the Wiltshire Times and its sister paper the Wiltshire Gazette and Herald, following his death aged 69.
He was known and loved by many people through the sporting world in Wiltshire, as well as those who grew up with him in Trowbridge, where he attended the then Boys High School before starting work for the Wiltshire Times, then run by family founders B Lansdown and Sons, aged 15.
He lived for many years in Hilperton Marsh, before moving to Devizes following his second marriage.
Mr Bristow leaves his brother Peter, wife Christine, daughter Emily, stepchildren and four grandchildren. The family have yet to decide whether to hold a wake in his memory when lockdown makes such a gathering possible.
He has suffered from COPD in the years before his death, and his family has asked that any donations in his memory should go to the British Lung Foundation, either sent direct or via D.J. Bewley, 64 New Park Street, Devizes.
