A BMW driver has admitted injuring a cyclist in a crash near Westbury.
Anthony Adams, 47, was behind the wheel of a BMW M5, speeding and three times over the drink drive limit when he struck the cyclist, a Trowbridge man in his 40s, on the A350 on November 17 last year.
The man suffered life changing injuries. When 999 crews arrived shortly after the crash at 6pm, one of his feet was pointing in the wrong direction. He was said to have had required extensive treatment.
Appearing before Swindon Crown Court on Friday afternoon, Adams, of Coach Road, Westbury, pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving and drink driving.
He blew 113mcgs of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35.
Judge Peter Crabtree bailed Adams to return to the crown court for sentence on January 5. He ordered a pre-sentence report.
The judge told Adams: “The starting point here is custody, you should be aware of that.”
Susan Cavender appeared for the Crown. Adams was represented by Tony Bignall.
