A HAMPSHIRE woman has been jailed for 26 months and banned for five years after causing a head-on crash which killed a young Warminster driver.
Lucy Beer, 28, died on the A36 between the Heytesbury and Crockerton roundabouts on January 27 last year.
The crash was caused by Lee Whitwell, 48, from Shipton Bellinger, Hampshire, who was driving on the wrong side of the road.
Winchester Crown Court heard on Monday that Mrs Whitwell had wrongly thought she was driving on a dual carriageway.
She was found guilty by a jury on July 24 of causing death by dangerous driving.
Mrs Whitwell was taken to Salisbury District Hospital with minor injuries after the crash, which happened shortly after 9pm.
She had driven her Volkswagen Touran in the eastbound lane for about 20 seconds before crashing into Ms Beer’s Kia Picanto coming from the opposite direction.
Judge Andrew Barnett ordered that Mrs Whitwell to be banned from driving for five years after her release from prison.
