A Scout group in Bradford on Avon has benefitted from a funding boost to help restore its ageing premises at St Margaret's Hill.
The 1st Bradford on Avon Scouts received a £300 cheque from Bellway Homes to help renovate their wooden scout hut, which was built in the 1950s and now in urgent need of repair.
Chris Pugh, Group Scout Leader said: “Our main concern is our ageing Scout hut, which has served us well over the years, but has now become expensive to maintain.
“Kind donations such as this one makes a massive difference to the Scout group, so we are really grateful for Bellway’s support.”
Christel Hawkins, Sales Manager at Bellway Homes South West, said: “We are really pleased to be able to offer our support to the 1st Bradford on Avon Scouts.
“The group is a big part of the community in the town and gives many children the chance to learn and socialise outside of school. We hope our donation helps them on their journey to restoring their hut.”
The hut's foundations have been undermined by a badger sett and need stabilising and other work needs to be done.
The group has launched an appeal to raise the funds but with no specific target, says the Scout group's executive secretary Nick Mcgrogan.
"We are still developing our plans for the hut, which is used by more than 60 Scouts, Cubs and Beavers every week."
Bellway Homes is building 58 new homes at Tithecote Manor, off Holt Road.
Cancer Research UK has named the housebuilder as its ‘Corporate Fundraising Team of the Year’ after raising more than £1.25 million for the charity since 2016.
Bellway South West, which is based in Bristol, and builds homes across Wiltshire, Somerset, Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire, raised £42,776 towards this total.
