THE following people have appeared before magistrates in Swindon in the past week.
MARLBOROUGH: Terry Horwat, 32, of Francklyn Acre, Marlborough, admitted drink driving and having no insurance or a licence.
He was behind the wheel of a red Chevrolet on Rodbourne Road, Swindon, on September 21 when breathalyser tests found he was twice the legal limit. He had 69 mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The limit is 35.
He was fined £400, banned from driving for 20 months and ordered to pay £85 prosecution costs and a £32 victim surcharge.
TROWBRIDGE: A woman who counted the theft of a Kit-Kat from Poundland among her list of misdemeanours has been jailed for nine months.
Debra Dunn, 39, of Castle Street, Trowbridge, pleaded guilty to stealing meat, clothing, toys and headphones from Sainsbury’s, groceries from Aldi and a £1 Kit-Kat from Poundland.
She admitted breaching the terms of an 18-month conditional discharge.
Magistrates sentenced her to 36 weeks’ imprisonment.
WROUGHTON: Charges have been dismissed against Martin Willis, 31, of Lords Close.
Willis had been accused of stealing another man’s wallet on January 14 and using it to withdraw £50 from a cashpoint. Charges were dismissed.
CRICKLADE: Jack Hope, 32, of Common Hill, admitted stealing three Woodwick candles from the town centre Boots store.
He was jailed for a total of 16 weeks after magistrates activated two previous suspended sentences having heard Hope had failed to respond to previous court orders.
ROYAL WOOTTON BASSETT: Dominic Sturgess, 34, of Saffron Close, Royal Wootton Bassett, pleaded guilty to being the owner of a dangerously out of control Staffordshire bull terrier cross called Coco at Queens Road, Royal Wootton Bassett which injured Eva Perna on July 27. Swindon magistrates ordered that the dog should be destroyed as it was a danger to public safety and had previously bitten a postman.
The court was told that measures to prevent further incidents had not worked and that the defendant had accepted advice from a vet that the dog would be best put down.
Sturgess was also ordered to pay £100 compensation.
MINETY: John Wood, 42, of Station Road was committed to Swindon Crown Court for sentence after pleading guilty to eight charges recording another person doing a private act with the purpose of obtaining sexual gratification. He was given unconditional bail.
PURTON: Eleanor Phillips, 19, of Station Road, was fined £83 after she admitted driving without due car and attention in the Morris Street car park in Rodbourne.
Her licence was endorsed with three penalty points. She must pay a £30 victim surcharge.
CALNE: Christopher Bell, 28, of Bryans Close appeared before Swindon Magistrates and pleaded guilty to entered Milbourne Way, Chippenham, in contravention of an anti-social behaviour order. He was fined £80, ordered to pay a surcharge of £32 and £35 costs.
CALNE: Carl Loverlock, 38, of London Road, failed to appear before Swindon magistrates on a charge of possession of cocaine and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
CHIPPENHAM: Christopher Riley, 68, of Wells Close pleaded guilty to failing to stop after an accident on Bradford Road, Corsham on May 10.
Damage was caused to a grey BMW but Riley, who was driving a grey Astra failed to stop. He was fined £166 and ordered to pay £85 costs.
PEWSEY: James Grassi, 22, of The Crescent, pleaded guilty to drink driving. The court heard he had 64 microgrammes of alcohol to 100 millilitres of breath and so was over the legal limit is 22. He was disqualified for 14 months and fined £362.
He was also ordered to pay a surcharge of £36 and costs of £85.
MALMESBURY: Ben Wright, 37, of Common Road was fined £266 and disqualified from driving for 18 months by Swindon magistrates after pleading guilty to failing to provide a specimen to police after being stopped on suspicion of unlawful driving.
He also pleaded guilty to possessing cannabis and was fined £50 and to driving a Landrover Freelander in Abbey Row without a proper licence or insurance and was fined £200.
