A HEARTBROKEN family has paid tribute to ‘gentle giant who would do anything for anybody’, after he died suddenly at home.

Shaun Ryan was found collapsed on the floor of the lounge at his home in Spinners Croft in the early hours of today.

This afternoon the 56-year-old’s daughter, Kirsty, 30, paid tribute to her father, who was a diabetic and disabled.

She said: “My dad was amazing. He was a gentle giant who loved his motorbikes and fishing.

“He loved fiercely and everybody loved him back. He would do anything for anybody.”

Mr Ryan was discovered by his son, Tim Ryan, 28, at 4.50am after they had walked one of Tim’s friends home.

Police were called by the South Western Ambulance Service at 5.20am, after the paramedics arrived at the house following a 999 call.

This afternoon the force confirmed they are still investigating the cause of Mr Ryan’s death, which is currently unexplained.

It is understood it is being treated as a medical incident, and a post mortem will be needed.

Tim was arrested and taken into police custody at Melksham for his own wellbeing.

Kirsty said her dad was a mechanic and fabrication engineer but had not worked for several years.

She said he had problems walking because of his diabetic condition and his weight, compounded by having injured his knees in a motorcycle accident several years ago.

Her mum Rachael Ryan, who also lives in Spinners Croft, is a healthcare support worker.

She was working a night shift and was not at home when her husband collapsed.

Kirsty added: “My brother and his friend were drinking and playing games on an Xbox until the early hours of the morning.

“My dad told them to pack it up and then he and my brother walked his friend home.

“After they got back, my brother was talking to his girlfriend on his mobile phone in the garage.

“When he came back into the lounge, he found my dad collapsed on the floor.

“He called the emergency services and the paramedics did everything they could to save my father’s life.

"My brother blames himself for not being there when he collapsed.”

Mr Ryan had visited his local GP on Wednesday to ask for treatment for a pain in his wrists.

Miss Ryan added: “My dad has been very poorly for quite a while.

"He had been to the doctors yesterday to change his medication.”
