THE housing association which owns the Waiblingen Way flats where an arson attack happened early today say its teams are offering support to tenants but have not addressed safety issues raised by people who live there.
A woman in her 50s is still in critical state in hospital and eight other people were treated for smoke inhalation and other injuries.
Many tenants said they have been living in fear since a spate of fires in bin stores on the estate in the summer. Some say they were promised that CCTV cameras would be installed.
A spokesman for Aster Group said: "We’re saddened to hear of the fire at Waiblingen Way and our thoughts are with those affected. We are working closely with the emergency services as they carry out their investigations.
“Our neighbourhood teams are on the ground offering help and support to the residents involved and we’ll be working closely with our partners to ensure suitable temporary accommodation and support is available.
“We want to reassure our residents that we take the safety of our customers very seriously. We will always take appropriate action to help keep our customers safe.
“We would encourage anyone with any information to report it to the Police by calling 101.”
Aster has not commented on the issue of CCTV.
