The M4 has now re-opened
Highways England has announced that the westbound carriageway of the M4 between junction 17 at Chippenham and junction 18 at Bath has just re-opened.
A spokesman said: "The road has re-opened but traffic will be slow approaching junction 17."
The motorway closure followed an accident involving four vehicles which happened during the early hours of today. One person has died and another is seriously injured.
