FIREFIGHTERS were at County Hall in Trowbridge this morning after a burst pipe led to flooding in the Wiltshire Council offices basement.
Firefighters at the scene confirmed that as much as 10ft of water had collected in the bottom of the lift shaft and once filled had begun to flood the basement.
They were at the scene from 9am this morning after the pipe, believed to be from the air conditioning unit, burst over the weekend.
They were set to leave the area at lunchtime, having pumped out the water and reduced the flooding to a few puddles.
Now the council must clean up the rest after the emergency services made the area safe.
The electrics were isolated by engineers from the electrics board to make the area safe, according to the Trowbridge crew present alongside two pumps at the scene.
A Wiltshire Council spokesman said: “We are currently dealing with a flood in the basement of County Hall which we believe was caused by an issue with the cooling system.
“At this stage there is no impact to any of our services, however we will keep people updated should the situation change.
“We would like to thank the Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue officers based in Trowbridge for their help today.”
A Dorset and Wiltshire fire service spokesman said: "We were called to County Hall in Trowbridge at 9.07am this morning after flooding was discovered in the basement and lift shaft. Two appliances went from Trowbridge and a large quantity of water was pumped out. The stop came at 12.04pm. We believe the issue to be a fault with the cooling unit."
