WILTSHIRE Heights care home and Bradford on Avon Town Council are joining forces to launch a community cinema in the town.
The idea came from conversations at the Cottle Avenue care home with regards to accessible cinema viewings.
Libby Miles, Wiltshire Heights’ Client Services Manager, approached the town council and with their support the plans were formed for its launch on Tuesday, October 2.
Mrs Miles said: “Our residents talked to us about modern films that they would like to see in a cinema environment. Some of our residents have mobility issues or are living with dementia which could make being in a cinema environment very difficult for them.
“The idea behind the Tuesday Matinee Club is to make it accessible to all so there will be cinema-style tiered seating as well as more informal seating around tables.
“We will also have a short interval to give a break in the film for refreshments and a comfort break.”
Screenings will take place during a three-month trial to see if there is demand locally for this kind of event.
Films will be shown on the first Tuesday of every month during a three-month trial at St Margaret’s Hall.
The doors open at 1.30pm and the screenings start at 2pm. Tickets cost £4.50 each and include light refreshments.
Tuesday’s film was The Greatest Showman. The next film will be Mary Shelley on November 6, and The Hatton Garden Job on December 4.
