PEOPLE who want to kickstart their careers or reignite them are being given a helping hand by a training and education initiative.
Learning Curve, a charity that helps people not in education to get qualifications and help them find jobs, has launched its autumn programme in Trowbridge, Melksham and Salisbury.
It is putting on government funded group workshops, run by expert tutors, such as everyday English and maths, computer training, using word and emails, CV help, creative crafts and much more.
The service is free for those in receipt of working benefits.
They also need to be over 19 and not working.
Quality manager at Learning Curve Brenda Harrison said: “This is a very exciting time and we are looking forward to the months ahead. We are now working out of Trowbridge Town Hall.
“Our autumn programme delivers a range of courses that matches the needs of the people of Wiltshire. We look at the needs of employers, what the job centre tells us, what our partner agencies tell us and our own experiences of what barriers there are for getting into work.
“If you have been out of the workplace for a long time it can be daunting, so this helps you make those first steps. We tend to have groups of eight to 10 people to make it more manageable.”
There are a host of workshops being run at the Town Hall. An initial assessment workshop for people who want to get an English or maths qualification is on Monday (September 17) at 10am. Every Friday from September 21-October 26 from 10am-2pm there is a sewing course. Maths sessions are on every Wednesday from 1.30-3.30pm from September 19-December 5. Working as a volunteer is from 9.30am-12.30pm from September 19-November 14.
The Learning Curve, Challymead Business Park, Melksham, is hosting workshops, as is the Elim Centre in Salisbury.
