A NEW male majorettes group put on a spectacular show in Fore Street for people visiting the Trowbridge Carnival County Fair and Boot Sale on Saturday.

The group, which is called The New Male Majorettes, was set up at the end of 2014 after breaking away from Devizes male dance troupe The Major Wrecks, which has been fundraising for charity Contact A Family for 25 years.

It now raises funds for Wiltshire Air Ambulance and a charity supporting special needs children, with the group confident of raising more than £6,000 this year thanks to a host of bookings.

Danny Holton, who is the group’s booking and event’s organiser, said: “So far we are doing really well, much better than we ever thought we would do when we decided to set up a new troupe.

“We have had lots of bookings already and have done festivals, carnivals, performances in town centres and much more. We have already raised around the £6,000 mark, which is really positive.

“There are still plenty of events planned between now and the end of the year. The performance in Trowbridge went really well and we managed to raise £246 during the day.

“We are over the moon with how it is going really. We didn’t expect to be where we are now by this time, but everyone has put in a lot of work in and the future is bright.”
