Staverton Halt.5 Then and Now
We bring to a close our feature on Staverton Halt this week. The little station we learnt opened in Oct 1905 but sadly closed under the Beecham axe in April 1966.
By the 1990s very little remained of the villages tiny station . Observers on the bridge opposite School lane, could lust make out the overgrown pathways which led down to the two small platforms .
Today just one line remains and what was left of the platforms are just bramble- strewn piles of rubble. The golden age of rail travel from the village has long gone but with recent Government policies to expand public transport in rural areas could give a small glimmer of hope that Staverton Halt could be resurrected one day as part of the overall strategy for transport provision in the future
