Trowbridge voiceover artist Jay Britton is hoping more doors will open for him in the industry after winning two categories at the prestigious Voice Arts Awards in New York.
The 29-year-old, who lives on the Castlemead estate with his wife Danielle and son Toby, two, decided to pursue his childhood dream of working as a voiceover artist following the birth of his son.
Mr Britton flew to Los Angeles in April to work with top flight coaches, producers, casting directors and voice talent to produce show reels, designed to demonstrate his skills.
He then submitted his reels and was nominated with two entries in the Outstanding Animation Demo category and one entry in the Best Male Voice in a Commercial Demo category.
Mr Britton, who still works full-time in IT, attended the awards in New York on November 9.
He said: “I was absolutely delighted and shocked when they read my name out as the winner.
“It was nice just to be nominated as that was unexpected, but to win both awards was just unbelievable.
“I didn’t think I would get nominated, so when I saw my name on the website I had to keep scrolling up and down to take it in, before I started jumping around the house in excitement.
“It is an extremely competitive industry and it was a fantastic experience just to be a part of it. I got to meet James Earl Jones, who voiced Darth Vader, and Patrick Fraley, who did Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, which was great.
“It was always my childhood dream to become a voiceover artist, but I took the safer option and went into IT.
“But after the birth of my son, I decided I wasn’t happy and it has just gone from there.”
Mr Britton has already worked with major companies such as Marvel Comics, the History Channel, Intel and Ford and his face and voice can currently be found on a national campaign across the United States for Ford’s new Mustang.
He added: “I’m hoping that the awards will help me get my name out there and allow more doors to open for me.
“The dream is to work on a Disney and Pixar film and voice a lead character in a Naughty Dog video game.
“It has been a crazy last 12 months, but my family have been so supportive and I wouldn’t have started along this path at all without my wife’s encouragement.”
Mr Britton is still currently looking for a UK agent.
