WEST Wilts Ladies clinched their opening West Clubs League East Division victory of the season as they defeated local rivals Devizes 4-2.

Wilts started well and Fi Pridham finished well for the opening goal.

The team continued their attacks and Sharna Crowe notched up the second from close range.

A superb pass from Ellie Spurrier to Jess Maclean and swift work from Livie Evans back to Maclean, who swept the ball goalwards. The ball lofted high and rebounded off the crossbar where Crowe fired home.

Devizes came back into the game, capitalising on a long ball and a cross found Becky Meredith on the far post, who pulled a goal back.

The visiting side continued to ruffle the Wilts defence and found the net again following open play.

Wilts regrouped and pressure from Suzanne Powell and Lucy Diggins secured a couple of penalty corners for Wilts. With ten minutes to go Evans scored again, while goalkeeper Jules Turner made several crucial saves in the final minutes . West Wilts Ladies 2nd maintained their 100 per cent record at home as they thrashed Corsham 2 7-3 in Wessex Division Two.

Goals came from Kia Kerr, Melissa Ilic and Sally Douthwaite.

The third team drew 1-1 away to Keynsham 3.

Despite being dominant for 69 minutes of the 70, and being in front for 64 minutes, Wilts were disappointed to leave with just a point.

The visitors started with determination and, with the game only 90 seconds old, clever play between Annabel Ilic and Nikki Ford released Nic Ilic to crack in an unstoppable shot from short range.

Wilts had further chances, but Keynsham equalised late on.

Callum goal snatches it for the men

WEST Wilts extended their unbeaten run in the Davis Wood Championship division to three games, winning a narrow contest 4-3 against Bristol University A.

Welcoming back Matt Elloway, Callum Wolff and Matt Kenyon, the first few minutes of the match were a cagey affair with both teams making attacks that were nullified.

It took a Wilts short corner that was deflected home by Elloway to break the deadlock.

The game continued as before until Bristol pounced on two Wilts mistakes to score and grab the lead.

Their joy was shortlived however, as a clever baseline drive and pass across the face of goal from Dan Sheppard, allowed Dave King to tap home to leave the game all square.

After half time Wilts came out strongly, Callum Wolff turning into the net after a shot from James Baker was stopped by the Bristol keeper.

However, a mazy run by a Bristol player was not stopped by the defence and they were able to level the match.

A tense last period of the game ensued when, in the last minute, Wilts won a penalty corner which Wolff duly dispatched.
