A pumpkin carriage led by two horses will be among the traffic waiting eagerly for the Tour of Britain road closures to reopen this morning.
Bride-to-be Stacy Daws, of Trowbridge, is due to marry her partner, Jason Hempsall, at Leigh Park Hotel in Bradford on Avon at 1pm, but only realised her route might be affected by the race this week.
She and mum Pauline will travel in the horse-drawn carriage from her home in Studley Green, while six of the couple’s daughters, her granddaughter and her daughter’s friend will travel in a limo.
Their three sons will travel with her mother-in-law and father-in-law from her house, Mr Hempsall, 35, will travel from a friend’s house in Studley Green and her other daughter is coming from Stroud.
“Somehow, we all have to cross the route,” said Miss Daws, 35. “I only realised on Wednesday. I heard there was a bike ride, but I didn’t know the route.
“This has been booked for nearly a year. It is ridiculous because I need to get to my wedding. We have to meet the registrar at the hotel at 12.30pm.
“I spoke to highways at Wiltshire Council and they said as long as the riders don’t split, it should be open by 12pm.
“The marshals have been made aware, so I hope they can get traffic moving quickly. I will be listening to all the race updates.”
The 8ft white carriage will take three quarters of an hour to travel to wedding via Staverton, as it can’t make it up Masons Land in Bradford.
Miss Daws hopes friends and family members, many of who are travelling from Hampshire, will not be caught up in the rolling road block as well.
The reception will be held at the hotel but Miss Daws said the couple, who have been together six years, couldn’t afford a honeymoon but will go on holiday with the children next year to the Isle of Wight.
